  19.              Thank you for trying the HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO.  This DEMO has
  20.              been designed to give you a "taste" of the power and
  21.              flexibility HotNotes! can bring to PAF.  HotNotes! has been
  22.              designed as a tool to help you more completely and easily
  23.              enter source documentation into PAF's Family Records program.
  24.  
  25.              HotNotes! adds numerous commands to PAF, operating inside the
  26.              running FR program, just as if FR has extra commands.  The two
  27.              work in tandem, complimenting each other's strengths and
  28.              forming a powerful combination.

  30.              Included is a informative on-line HELP system and
  31.              documentation to help get you started.  Make an effort to
  32.              study and learn the may features available within HotNotes!.
  33.              At any time, you may use the VIEW program to review or print
  34.              the on-disk documentation.  Using HotNotes! properly should
  35.              make your interactions with PAF a much more delightful
  36.              experience!

  40.              System Requirements
  41.              -------------------

  43.              HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO only operates from WITHIN the running PAF
  44.              2.2 Family Records program.  A fully compatible IBM PC, XT, AT
  45.              or 386 and higher computer, DOS 3.0 or higher and a hard disk
  46.              are required.  All monitors are supported in regular character
  47.              modes.

  49.              HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO must be installed in the same hard disk and
  50.              subdirectory PAF is installed.  You will need about 500K bytes
  51.              of free hard disk space to install HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO.

  55.              Installation Instructions

  57.              If installing from a disk, insert the HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO disk
  58.              into your A:(or B:) disk drive, then type:
  59.  
  60.                   A: (or B:)         (log onto floppy disk A: or B:)
  61.                   INSTALL A: C:      (or INSTALL B: C:)
  62.  
  63.              Substitute another hard disk if PAF is not on drive C:.
  64.              Follow the instructions in the install program.

  66.              VIEW and PRINT Documentation
  67.              ----------------------------
  68.              You may now use the VIEW command to select, read and print
  69.              HotNotes! documentation.  Simply type VIEW at the DOS command
  70.              line when in the \PAF directory.  Type:

  72.                   cd \paf             (then press <Enter>)
  73.                   view                <Enter>
  74.  
  75.              Within VIEW you are instructed to turn on your printer, move
  76.              the highlight bar to select the desired file, Press <Enter> to
  77.              view the file, then Press <F2> to print that file.  Repeat for
  78.              all other files you desire to print.  For example, as you read
  79.              this file (during installation) turn your printer on and
  80.              simply Press <f2> to print it.

  87.              HotNotes! works best if you start from the PAF subdirectory,
  88.              but it may be started from any directory as long as you have
  89.              the DOS PATH statement with PAF in it (This is done for you
  90.              when you install PAF.)

  92.              To start HotNotes!, type

  96.              You may setup and save the default color configuration from
  97.              the Launch Menu by simply pressing the <Space> bar.

  107.              HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO Feature Restrictions

  109.              This DEMO provides most but not all the features available in
  110.              the commercial version of HotNotes! 2.2.  Mainly you are
  111.              limited to only saving ten sources from one database nor can
  112.              you save your user-defined macros.  All other features are
  113.              available, including the wordwrap editor, tag menu, source
  114.              insertion, notes screen text extractions, and file import.
  115.

  175.              longer be distributed.  Please remove HotNotes! Version 1.0,
  176.              1.02 and 1.1 from all BBS systems and replace them with this
  177.              copy of the HotNotes! Version 2 DEMO.  It supersedes all
  178.              functions of Version 1.

  180.              The disk version of the HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO is optimized for
  181.              floppy disk installation.  It contains four files: HNDEMO.EXE,
  182.              INSTALL.BAT, VIEW.EXE and HNREAD.ME.

  184.              We prefer that only the BBS version of the HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO
  185.              be loaded onto a BBS.  It is available from Silicon Roots! as
  186.              the single HN22DEMO.EXE self-extracting file, specifically

  188.              circulating on the BBS circuit.

  268.              What if the HotNotes! 2.2 DEMO Doesn't Work on My Computer?
  269.              -----------------------------------------------------------
  270.              Because of the technology used to allow HotNotes! to work
  271.              inside of the FR.EXE program, in a few isolated cases,
  272.              HotNotes! may not work as expected on certain computers.  In
  273.              such cases, we would like to be informed of the make and type
  274.              of computer giving your problems.
  275.  
  276.              However, prior to attributing all the blame to HotNotes!,
  277.              please first make sure you have tried these things:
  278.  
  279.              1. Make sure you set the proper colors.  Some colors are
  280.              invisible on a monochrome or laptop screens.  Other colors
  281.              blink.  Set colors by pressing the SPACE bar just after
  282.              starting HotNotes!.
  283.  
  284.              2. First try starting HotNotes! from the plain DOS command
  285.              line.  If using a DOS shell program, exit it completely before
  286.              starting HotNotes!.  Then change to the PAF directory and type
  287.              HN to start.  HotNotes! doesn't work well with certain older,
  288.              off-brand shells.  It has been tested on WINDOWS, DOS SHELL,
  289.              Norton Commander, and PC Tools.
  290.  
  291.              3. Remove or make sure no other TSR programs are loaded prior
  292.              to HotNotes!.  Other TSR's may interact adversely with
  293.              HotNotes!.  Remove these from memory before running HotNotes!.
  294.              Make sure they aren't being loaded automatically at BOOT time
  295.              in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  296.  
  297.              4. Please make sure you are computer virus free.  HotNotes! is
  298.              written in assembly language and doesn't run at all well with
  299.              a virus attached to it (and neither does PAF.)
  300.  
  301.              5. DO NOT enter HN.EXE as another file to configure, when
  302.              running CONFIG.EXE for PAF.  CONFIG writes FR's configuration
  303.              directly into the executable file.  Doing so to HotNotes! is
  304.              worse than a virus!
  305.  
  306.              If you still have problems and care to help us document or
  307.              resolve the situations, please send a complete description of
  308.              your computer, the nature of the problem, and what you tried
  309.              doing.
  310.  
  311.              If possible, try to duplicate the problem and document the
  312.              step-by-step sequence of events which leads up to it.  Forward
  313.              this information to Silicon Roots! Associates.  Thank you for

  317.              Upgrades for Present Owners of HotNotes! 2.2
  318.              --------------------------------------------
  319.              Some things have improved since earlier HotNotes! Version 2
  320.              releases.  This demo was based upon HotNotes! 2.2 Release 10.

  322.              Current registered HotNotes! owners who see newer features in
  323.              this DEMO than the release they presently own may order the
  324.              most recent release of HotNotes! Version 2 for $5 from Silicon
  325.              Roots! (address below.)

  327.              Major or more significant upgrades will be priced higher.
  328.              Registered owners will be notified by mail and be given the
  329.              opportunity to upgrade at a discounted price.  The Version
  330.              number will change to "3.0," "4.0," etc., and it will contain
